Body Relationship
Therapy
aka "Couples Therapy between you and your body"
If I asked you what type of relationship you had with your body, what would you say?
Are you amicable roommates? Are you a couple headed towards divorce? Or maybe you are people who knew each other in school and haven't talked since? Or perhaps in a relationship where one treats the other badly?
The longer I work in this field, the more I learn about the complex relationships we have with our bodies. We often live in a way that directly conflicts what our bodies are telling us. There are usually excellent reasons that happens: societal expectations, family/cultural norms, even personal biases. We also have daily lives that require us to put so much ahead of our own needs, such as financial responsibilities, family duty, work, and countless more. In this type of work, we look at it all and try to find REALISTIC ways to improve the relationships we have with our body, as it is how we live and experience the world. We wouldn't get far without one, yet it's the first thing many of us ignore.
"Ugh, this sounds like a lot, how could it really help me?"
